Just like a home grill, it rarely pays to skimp on a portable model. Most of us have picked up portable grills that seemed like a terrific buy at the time, only to watch them rust out or simply fall apart after a couple years of use. Therefore, rather than dealing with low-quality grills that need almost seasonal replacement, we always suggest buying one that you can be sure will last – like the Magma A10-803 Chef’s Mate Connoisseur Series Gas Grill.

Magma’s portable grills have an almost legendary following among boaters for their ultra-durability and performance, and the Chef’s Mate Connoisseur Series is no exception.

This grill is as attractive as it is tough. Made with very high-grade 18-9 stainless steel (a highly corrosion resistant steel alloy) that is polished to a mirrored finish, you can be sure that this grill won’t flake, fade or otherwise fall apart on you, even after heavy use.

And like Magma portable grills generally, it is designed to be highly portable and low-maintenance for use on land or sea, with fold away legs, a lockable lid and a radiant cook plate that can be easily removed for quick cleaning. And if you intend to use this on the water, Magma has a large line of optional mounting accessories to secure this grill onto your boat. This grill is designed for use with 1-pound portable propane tanks, but can be fitted to larger tanks or your boat’s on-board natural gas or propane system as well.

Perhaps the only downside for us it that this grill has a very small grilling capacity and no warming space. With 162 square inches of total grilling surface area, this grill is probably sufficient for 2 or possibly 3 people, but most likely too small for a family or larger gatherings. For more space and also exceptional build quality, you might consider the Napoleon PTSS215PI Freestyle Portable Gas Grill, which has roughly double the grilling space in addition to a large warming area.

Overall, if you don’t mind its small grilling area, or if you’re more interested in getting a very sturdy and attractive gas grill that is ultra portable and/or can be fitted easily to your boat, then the Magma A10-803 Chef’s Mate Connoisseur Series Gas Grill is a great choice.
