Honeywell CO60PM Indoor/Outdoor Evaporative Air Cooler Review

Honeywell CO60PM 125 pt. Evaporative Cooler

If you live in a hot dry climate where evaporative coolers work very well, then it only makes to consider one, since they use a fraction of the electricity of an air conditioner and can usually cool a larger area than a similarly-priced air conditioner. For example, the Honeywell CO60PM 125 Pt. Commercial Indoor/Outdoor Portable Evaporative Air Cooler can cool up to 850 square feet, which is nearly double the coverage area a portable air conditioner in its price range could achieve. Evaporative coolers – or “swamp” coolers – if you prefer, are something that only people living in relatively dry climates can enjoy, so if your summers are muggy or steamy (e.g., think Florida or Washington DC), you can stop reading this and start looking at window-mounted or portable air conditioners.

However, if you do experience low relative humidity during the hot months, then it would be silly not to consider a swamp cooler. Because they don’t use a compressor and simply move air across a moistened medium, they typically use only around 25% of the electricity required by a typical air conditioner. Further, because they are designed to work with the windows open, you don’t need to seal yourself in a small room.

Another advantage is their typically greater cooling area for the price of the unit. To cool a 500 square foot room with a portable air conditioner, you’d probably have to shell out a good $500 for a capable unit. However, your money can go farther with an evaporative cooler.

For example, the Honeywell CO60PM is heavy duty, portable indoor/outdoor evaporative cooler that is currently selling for $400. However, this swamp cooler can cover an area of up to 850 square feet.

However, the CO60PM is not a typical swamp cooler. Aside from being more powerful than most, its much more durable too, making ideal for outdoor use as well. This is in part due to its waterproof/weatherproof construction; large 125 pint capacity; very powerful 3-speed fan capable of air flow up to 1540 CFM; and unique, 3-D honeycomb shaped cooling media. Additionally, this unit is equipped for a continuous water supply connection, allowing you to leave it running for long periods.

Overall, we really like Honeywell CO60PM. And while it’s not as cheap as some indoor swamp coolers, it delivers much more cooling power than they do and can be used outdoors, making it ideal for parties or other large backward gatherings. And due to it’s all-weather construction, you don’t need to fear rain or the elements, and can move it elsewhere in/around or the home or take it to the jobsite when needed.
