Although we appreciate eco-friendly, zero-emission products, we are first and foremost committed to finding products – including lawn/garden tools – that work well, cost-effectively and reliably. That is why we are happy to say that you don’t need to have a shred of concern for the environment when considering retiring your old gas guzzler for the GreenWorks 25312 G-MAX 40V Cordless 19″ Electric Push Mower.

If you given any consideration to electrics, then you most likely know already that they are light, run nearly silently, don’t require messy fuel, are easier to store and are cheaper to run than gas models. But many cordless versions – especially earlier ones – lacked the “umph” to tackle tall, difficult grasses, often became bogged down on bumpy lawns, or simply ran out of juice before the job was done.

Fortunately, cordless electric lawn tools have advanced dramatically, and with the advent of 40 volt cordless power, there are now electric mowers that can deliver the performance of gas models, without the mess, noise, fumes and added operating costs that go with them. The GreenWorks 40V G-MAX Cordless mower is currently one of the best of this new breed, and is now equipped with two new G-MAX 40v battery packs, which can be used interchangeably with any of GreenWorks other 40V “G-MAX” garden/lawn care tools.

This 40V system provides fantastic power and can handle pretty much any typical lawn – ruts, hills and tough grass patches included. And the lithium ion battery pack can provide 60 minutes of run time. Moreover, this particular model (25132) comes with (2) 40V 4 Amp-Hour packs for extra cutting power and battery life.

Other key features include a 19” steel cutting deck; mulching, bagging and side discharge options; super-easy 6-position lever height adjustment; and a quick folding design that makes for simple storage.

Further, all of this power and technology comes in a mower that weighs in at just 49 lbs, which makes it one of the easiest “push” mowers you are going to find.

The big downside of the 40V G-MAX Cordless mower is that it’s a fairly pricy for an electric, as it’s currently selling in the neighborhood of $450. Of course, you are also getting two 4 Amp Hour battery packs with this particular package, so the price is actually not as steep as it appears, but it is significant. As a result, if you still have a trusty gas model and you don’t mind the noise, mess and smell gas cans, you might want to squeeze a few more years out of it. On the other hand, if those things really irk you, then the additional upfront cost of this mower is easily worth it in our view.
