Danby Premiere DPAC13012H

If you seek a portable air conditioner that’s got a lot of BTUs for larger rooms and also a heater function built in – and you are on a tight budget – one of the best deals right now is the Danby Premiere DPAC13012H 13000 BTU Portable AC. Even a casual look at portable AC units toward the upper BTU range (13,000 – 14,000 BTUs) will reveal that they are darn expensive – usually hovering around $500 at least. Moreover, you will see that the majority don’t even include any heater function at that price. Unfortunately, portable units are just plain expensive compared to a similarly-rated window unit.

But there are some manufacturers known for delivering good quality high-BTU models at a very reasonable price. Danby is one of the most well-known of these value driven companies, and they have not disappointed lately; case in point:  the Danby Premiere DPAC13012H 13000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner.

With a total of 13,000 BTUs of cooling power and a strong three-speed circulating fan, this unit can easily cool down a room of 550 square feet in size, and possibly larger, depending on the room’s aspect/ceiling height, etc.

But heating is not all it does. The DPAC13012H is also equipped with a 1083 Watts/12 Amp built-in heater to keep you comfortable when the heat finally passes.

Other interesting features include:

  •  a continuous drain option for minimal running maintenance;
  • a 54 pint/day capacity dehumidifier;
  • low operational noise;
  • rolling castors for room to room mobility;
  • a relatively lightweight design (for such a high-capacity unit);
  • solid digital temperature controls;
  • full function remote;
  • auto start/stop programming; and
  • an LED display

And despite this very generous feature set and heater function, the DPAC13012H also has another important bragging right – extraordinary value. Currently selling for $370, this model is much cheaper than others in its BTU and spec class, offering unusual bang for your buck.

On the downside, this unit is not Energy Star rated, so it is not as efficient as some of the other high BTU portable models we have reviewed. However, those typically cost more than the Danby and/or don’t come with the added heater function at the Danby’s price.

Overall, if you are looking for a very good deal on larger portable AC unit and can appreciate the added convenience of a built in heater, then the DPAC13012H is a great option.
