Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter ReviewThe Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter Portable Generator is a new, 3000-watt model that is solid as they come. But besides being made by an American icon in the small engine realm, what else should you know about it, and is it worth your money? Please read on as we take a closer look at this new inverter and whether its right for you.

Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter – Quick Specifications

Clean, Safe Power

The big benefit inverter generators provide is relatively clean power. What do we mean by that? Well, basically it refers to relatively stable electrical power with an optimal waveform that’s ideal for running sensitive electronics, such as computers, TVs, and most other audio/visual equipment. This of course does not mean that all inverters are equally good at producing safe power – the Briggs and Stratton is definitely a clean running model, however, that is rated to produce less than 3 percent “harmonic” distortion. Consequently, you need not fear running your most sensitive electronics with this model.

Lots of Power for an Inverter

As you will note, inverters are much more expensive than tradition portable generators, watt for watt. Consequently, they are usually much more limited in their output. The good news is that the Briggs and Stratton 30545 generates a total of 3,000 watts of power, which is more than enough for powering key appliances during blackouts/brownouts, or running most creature comforts when off the grid camping or working at the job site. In fact, this model is reportedly sufficient to start some very energy-greedy appliances, including air conditioners up to 15,000 BTUs in power. That is darn good!

Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter - Power Panel DesignWell-Designed Power Panel

This inverter uses a full power panel that is generously appointed with (4) 120V/20 amp outlets, one 120V / 30 amp twist-lock outlet, and a 12V/DC outlet for charging car batters or running 12V/DC appliances.  This is really everything you need.

In addition, the panel features a USB charging station, and a crisp LCD display that tells you exactly how much power is being produced and the time left on your fuel.

Great Runtime & Fuel Efficiency

Inverters tend to be good on gas, but the Briggs and Stratton 30545 inverter sips fuel particularly lightly. This model uses a computerized “brain” to adjust engine throttle speed as necessary; throttling up when energy demands increase, and idling down with they decrease. Consequently, you can expect long runtimes – the 30545 is rated to last for approximately 9 hours at 1/4 of maximum operating load. This is very good, especially when you consider that the unit is equipped with a small, 1.5 gallon gas tank.

Price and Value

Besides coming well-appointed and producing lots of clean power, it is reasonably-priced for a high-quality 3,000 watt inverter generator. At the time of this writing, this model is selling for roughly $1,200, which is not cheap, but considerably less expensive than other comparable inverters, such as the equivalent Honda and Yamaha inverter models.

Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter - a solid, top-tier inverter generatorBriggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter – Concluding Thoughts

While not aimed at the bargain-hunting crowd, the Briggs and Stratton 30545 PowerSmart Inverter Portable Generator is a good buy among higher-tier inverter generators, like the Yamaha and Honda line of inverters. Consequently, if very clean power, high efficiency, and durability are paramount concerns, we think that this model is as good as any and well-worth the price.
